ROW80 – 2024 – Round 1 – Check-in 8 (March, 3rd 2024)

Hi everyone!

Note: To keep posts short, I’ve made a Trello board with my goals for the year and beyond. Feel free to check it out if you want to know more about the bigger plan.

My word for the week is IMPROVEMENT.

As my health got better, so did my mood and the rest just followed. I still think my treatment is messing up my body, since I’ve had a couple of tendinites, but given how bad I felt after missing a few meds, that’s a minor setback.

It does mean I could not move around normally so I have to be realistic about sanding the wooden floor: it won’t happen this month.

Round Goals

The  sleeping bags are about halfway and it was actually quite nice teaching the girls how to sew by hand (next step is a handheld sewing machine I’ve just ordered and which I’ll also need to learn how to use ^^; ).

The shape is a bit strange because, as it turns out, fleece moves quite a lot while you sew. But I’m sure Barbie won’t mind. XD

Writing

  • CS2 "Harmonies"

Translating

  • Meditation Project

Publishing

  • Meditations

Work

  • Online

I'll fix issues ASAP and resume sharing content.

  • Quality

I'll keep up-to-date with my field's evolution and make necessary adjustments.

  • Japanese

I'll make lessons for Genki na Nihongo, hopefully up to chapter 4.

Home

  • Cleaning

I'll keep cleaning, organizing and decluttering as preparation for future renovation and improvement. For this round, I'd like everything to be in the right room at least.

  • Barbie House

Along with the sorting effort, I'll put everything we can use in the new workshop. And since it also has to be fun, we'll start making small pieces of furniture. And I'll take some photos to journal all this.

  • Saving

I'll try and save for future renovation work.

  • Bathroom

I will prepare a work area so as to be ready to finish those walls in June. (But maybe that can wait until April or May, so Round 2 ^^)

Personal

  • Studies

I'll start the Japanese Academic Writing course.

  • Reading

I'll focus on primary resources for my research and academic articles both for my research and courses.

  • Well-being

I'll meditate at least once a day and I'll practice mindfulness and gratitude in general. I'll rest when I need to and spend quality time with my loved ones.

Yearly goals

The girls are on a break so the focus is on crafting and sorting.

I’ve also rearranged a few things and added a new improvement to come at home: a mezzanine bed for the girls. For a moment, I hesitated between your basic Ikea solution (cheap but with a ladder) and an actual industrial mezzanine with stairs (quite pricy, so that meant waiting for at least a year to save up and clarify the property’s status with my ex), but then I found a perfect in-between mezzanine bed. Of course it’s more expensive than the Ikea version but it’s sturdy metal and it has stairs, yet it’s more affordable than building an actual mezzanine in the room.

It’s a two-people job so I’ll have to see when my dad’s available to help. I figured autumn would work best for him, so for now, it’s on my yearly goals for November, probably after the girls and I come back from our little trip (I’m waiting for their IDs and then I’ll make the reservations ^^).

How about you? What is your word for this week and why? Let me know in the comments. Take care!
