ROW80 – 2023 – Goals (January, 8th 2023)
Hi everyone!Â
Note: To keep posts short, I’ve made a Trello board with my goals for the year. Feel free to check it out if you want to know more about the bigger plan.
My word for the week is OPEN.
As the year opened, I had to face once again how I really feel about my ex. The difference this time is that he’s realized he’s been angry for a while and has decided to let go. So it’s easier to communicate.
I don’t know if we can ever hope to mend things between us, but at least we can co-parent quietly and have a better relationship. He knows how I feel and hasn’t been weird about it this time, which is progress in itself.
To be honest, I feel hopeful there might be more to our story, yet I have to also anticipate there might not. It’s a strange situation and feeling, but accepting this has meant less stress. Being open about my feelings at least means I’m not in a stressful web of contradictions anymore.
Yearly Goals
Since writerly things have proved hard to do, I’ve decided to spend half the year focusing on writing, then the rest of the year on revising and plotting. We’ll see how that goes.
And I won’t publish anything, obviously. But I’m hoping to have a short story beta-read to publish it in 2024.
Not much news as far as work is concerned, I’ll mostly be following up on what I started, and making sure I can work with some partners again.
Translations will be about mindfulness, with more Medito sessions (still volunteering ^^) and a Kindness Curriculum I want to use with my daughters.
Studies will be focused on Japanese proficiency.
Round 1 Goals
This ROWnd, I’ll try and take it easy with all the changes at home (my ex moving out and my mom moving in).
So micro-writing for the fantasy saga, and that’s it.
Not too many things to translate either, and the biggest is in January so I can focus on other things later.
Sharing meditations will be done every Sunday. I already have enough to last till late October, so no worries there.
Of course, work still needs to be done, but I’ll focus on projects I can use quickly.
Home will be on hold as far as renovation is concerned, at least until we figure out the paperwork making me the sole owner. So this ROWnd, just the kitchen cause I’m done having no sink (a friend is coming to help next week).
Finally, personal goals. I’ll focus on self-care and gratitude while also studying for my BA in Japanese.

I'll meditate at least once a day and keep seeing my therapist. I'll practice mindfulness and gratitude in general. I'll rest when I need to.
-

I'll do yoga at least 3 times a week.
-
Reading
I'll keep reading at least 1 paperback a month as part of my decluttering effort.
Monthly Goals
With my ex moving by the end of the month, I won’t have that much time so I’ll stick to less goals.
Studies are to be determined because I need to register to access the syllabus and schedule, which I should be able to do next week.
Now that I have only a couple of chapters to write, I really hope I can wrap up that 2.1 book at last!
The mindfulness translation goals (including corrections, recording and video-editing) have been quite easy to meet over the past couple of years so I’ll just keep working the same way.
This year, I’m adding a Kindness Curriculum, mostly to practice with my daughters as they’re more comfortable with French, for obvious reasons.
And then of course there’s work. I do have a few other things on the side but no biggy, so only two actual goals made it here: online course preparations and Japanese class preparations. I’ve also found my pace for these, so I’m not too worried.

I hope the shift helps with getting to all the things you want.

Thanks Fallon! It hasn’t really yet, but I keep hoping. ^^

It sounds like there is already some progress to cheer for. And your word seems inspired.

I am impressed with your planning and goals – as long as there’s plenty of ‘me’ time I’m sure you’ll achieve all:)
ruichan
Oh, there will be, thanks Alberta! 😀

I do a yearly word rather than a weekly one. My word is CONNECTION, because I feel I need to grow and strengthen my personal and professional networks in order to thrive.
I always love reading your goal posts, and I’m so happy you get to stay in your house and will have support.

Thanks Shan! I love your yearly word, and it’s probably one of the key words in my life too! I hope you thrive and connect just as you wish! ^^
