ROW80 – 2024 – Round 1 – Check-in 2 (January, 21st 2024)

Hi everyone!

Note: To keep posts short, I’ve made a Trello board with my goals for the year and beyond. Feel free to check it out if you want to know more about the bigger plan.

My word for the week is FROZEN.

Just like the temperature, my motivation went down. And after slightly hurting my back, any effort at sorting and decluttering was simply stopped in its track. But the weather is milder now, so I suppose tidying the storage room will be less daunting. ^^;

Other than that, the week was also slower because of the snow. The girls didn’t have school starting Wednesday, and some of my students also cancelled their classes obviously, so it felt like we were on vacation again (which probably didn’t help with motivation either).

I did make some nice progress on my Play Time assessment sheet, so I can move on to the next stage in this goal, that is to say the lessons’ slides (yes, another goal readjustment).

Round Goals

Since I’m mostly focused on the craft project and decluttering, I’ll add a few photos here to report visually on the progress.

For now, here’s the piece of furnishing we intend to turn into a second Barbie house. It’s full of other stuff we can use to make furniture and I’ve added 3 storage boxes on top to make 3 extra rooms. Now the girls are really excited and they even want to have a whole doll town thing in the end, so it’s quite fun. We’re mostly brainstorming for now, trying to figure out how to reuse things in the project. ^^

  • Cleaning

I'll keep cleaning, organizing and decluttering as preparation for future renovation and improvement. For this round, I'd like everything to be in the right room at least.

  • Barbie House

Along with the sorting effort, I'll put everything we can use in the new workshop. And since it also has to be fun, we'll start making small pieces of furniture. And I'll take some photos to journal all this.

  • Saving

I'll try and save for future renovation work.

  • Bathroom

I will prepare a work area so as to be ready to finish those walls in June. (But maybe that can wait until April or May, so Round 2 ^^)

Personal

  • Studies

I'll start the Japanese Academic Writing course.

  • Reading

I'll focus on primary resources for my research and academic articles both for my research and courses.

  • Well-being

I'll meditate at least once a day and I'll practice mindfulness and gratitude in general. I'll rest when I need to and spend quality time with my loved ones.

Yearly goals

I usually love having tons of goals but I think this empty grid will do just fine for this year. I did add some cells in the “Story Time” section since my goal for this month was to schedule that, but I think most of the empty cells will remain just so, at least until June.

How about you? What is your word for this week and why? Let me know in the comments. Take care!
