ROW80 – 2022 – Round 1 – Check-in 4 (January, 30th 2022)
Hi everyone!
Note: To keep posts short, I’ve made a Trello board with my goals for the year. Feel free to check it out if you want to know more about the bigger plan.
My word for the week is PACE.
All the family got a little sick on Sunday, so I had to adjust a little but I think I found my pace to balance work, studies and personal life.
I realized last week I wouldn’t be able to check all existing translations in my volunteer work, so I decided to aim at 50% after all. And I was there, until we realized some supposedly recorded files were not and also needed to be double checked. So I got back to over 50% eventually yesterday but I had to donate more time than I had expected to do so. That was only possible because my other goals were not in the way (obviously, volunteer work comes after personal and professional things ^^).
Another realization that was much nicer and that also helped a lot, is that studying does not require as much time as I expected. Turns out all these years at university are paying off and made me super efficient when it comes to studying! Even when both girls ended up staying at home on Thursday and Friday because both their teachers are COVID-19 positive, I was able to keep things up and even stay a little ahead, which is always more comfortable. ^^
Or course, there’s also the fact that I had to start over even though I already know the language, but I’m not slacking though. I do all assignments and the only edge I have is that I know most of the vocabulary and grammar we cover for now. And what’s always nice about languages is that there’s always some new word around the corner, even in beginners’ lessons (especially when you knowledge gets a little dated and new technologies or events happen!).
So all in all, a good week and a good month since I “passed” everything.
Speaking of this, tomorrow is the last day of January, so I’m also setting new goals for February. Most are the continuation of January’s goals but I’m also reducing their numbers. January went well but I could feel it was a little too much sometimes and I need to start listening to what my brain and body tell me. Plus February is a shorter month and I always find those couple of missing days make it fly by.
The good news is that I’ve actually completed one of my February goals in January! When I worked on Workbook 1 for Story Time, I realized I could efficiently work on Workbook 2 at the same time since it was mostly finishing touches.
And since I’ve also completed some long-term tasks in January, there’s more time for the other goals. And I intend to keep it that way!
